Colors that tell
Inspired by the novel by Siegfried Lenz, "The Lesson from Germany" (Hoffmann und Campe Verlag, Hamburg, French edition, 2015, p.38)
It was 1943, in one of the most remote and northern regions of Germany. In the courtyard of Max, the painter, came a decision from Berlin. I hear a conversation between the painter and my father:
My Father: "But why Max, why do they want that? Why do you have to stop painting?”
The painter hesitated: "Maybe I talk too much?"
"Talk?", my father asked.
"It's the color", said the painter, "The color always has something to tell. Sometimes it makes definite statements. Who knows what the color thinks about?”

C’était en 1943, dans une des régions les plus reculées et les plus au nord d’Allemagne. Dans la cour du peintre Max est arrivée une décision de Berlin. J’entends une conversation entre le peintre et mon père:
Mon père: "Mais pourquoi Max, pourquoi veulent-ils cela? Pourquoi doit-tu arrêter de peindre?"
Le peintre a hésité: "Peut-être que je parle trop? "
"Parler ?”, mon père a demandé.
"C’est la couleur", dit le peintre, "La couleur a toujours quelque chose à dire. Parfois, elle fait des déclarations définitives. Qui sait à quoi songe la couleur?"
